Czech billionaire Petr Kellner, 56, was killed in a helicopter crash in Alaska, said Itka Tkadlecova, spokeswoman for his PPF investment group.
The tragedy happened near the Knik glacier with ski slopes. Five of the people on board were killed, one survived – doctors assess his condition as serious.
The bodies were found by the National Guard and volunteers from the rescue squad. The remains were handed over for forensic examination.
After the incident, authorities imposed a temporary ban on flights in the area of the glacier. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the causes of the crash.
Petr Kellner is the founder and main shareholder of PPF Group N.V. According to the latest data, his fortune is estimated at 17.5 billion dollars. For some thirty years, he has been the leader among Czech billionaires in dollars. From 2008 to 2016, his group owned the Eldorado retail chain.
